Passion Projects SF: The Artist Behind the Effect
Passion Projects SF (PPSF) is a San Francisco-based arts initiative that celebrates the personal creative lives of world-class visual effects artists — the painters, sculptors, printmakers, collagists, and writers who have shaped some of the most iconic films and television of our time, and who continue to make extraordinary work beyond the screen.
For decades, the Bay Area has been the beating heart of the visual effects industry. ILM, Pixar, Tippett Studios and others have called this region home, attracting generations of deeply skilled artists whose professional contributions are legendary — but whose personal creative work remains largely unseen. PPSF exists to change that.
Through curated exhibitions, an online gallery, retail sales of original work, artist talks, workshops, and community events, PPSF creates a central space where these artists can share their passion projects with the public — and where the public can engage with the full creative humanity behind the films they love. We honor both the professional legacy and the personal artistry of our community, fostering dialogue, preserving cinematic history, and inspiring new creative voices.
PPSF launched online in 2025 and is planning its first Bay Area pop-up for October 2026, with the long-term vision of a permanent hybrid gallery-shop in San Francisco. We are a registered sole proprietorship with a CDTFA seller's permit, an active online presence at passionprojects.art, and a growing roster of participating artists connected to the global VFX community.
